Audley's National Year of Reading 2026

Go All In!

The National Year of Reading at Audley Junior School

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a Department for Education initiative encouraging everyone to go all in with reading. Its aim is to help children develop strong reading skills and, just as importantly, a love of reading for pleasure.

Through schools, families and communities working together, the initiative promotes reading as a key part of learning, wellbeing and future success.

At Audley Junior School, we’re ‘going all in’ to inspire a lifelong love of reading and help every child develop their skills along the way.

Throughout 2026, we’ll be marking this with a range of fun and inspiring reading events for our pupils and parents—so watch this space!

January

New Year, New Reading Goals!

This month, our children and staff are focusing on developing new reading habits by setting a reading resolution. The children are excited to try new things and have shared some fantastic ideas! Mrs. Aldred kicked off the term with a special assembly, and each class received a brand-new book for their classroom library.

What reading resolution has your child made this year?

3N have set their own reading resolutions, thinking about how they can grow as readers.  From trying new genres to reading more often at home, 3N are excited to challenge themselves and develop a real love of books!

On Friday 16th January, Nicola from Curious Cats visited us and we held a book a book sale in our school library.  Every book was £3.50 and we earned 39 free books for our school! What a way to start the year.

'Reading Takes You home'

This month’s theme is “Reading Takes You Home.”

Through this theme, we are encouraging our children to read more outside of school and to enjoy sharing books with their families at home.

To support this, we have recently re-launched our reading corridor and invested heavily in a range of new books that we know our children are excited to read. We hope this will inspire them to discover new stories and develop their reading habits.

I have also put together a guide to helping your child read at home, which you can access below. It includes simple ideas and strategies that you can use to support your child’s reading and build their confidence.

World Book Day

On Thursday 5th March, we celebrated World Book Day!

As a school, we read, 'The Word Collector' and completed lots of activities based on words and new vocabulary.  We also came to school dressed as a word.
